5, 4, 3, 2, 1.. It’s such a simple counting rule that everyone talks about, but does it work for everyone? We all experience those times where our heart may be beating 1000 times per second, but the way we handle these feelings vary by each person. Over these past few months, I have found it harder to channel the energy of fear, anxiousness, and nerves into a positive and energizing way that I can control on my own. Life can be overwhelming and with the constant ‘go, go, go’ type of lifestyle, we often forget to pause and take a breath of air. One of the first steps you can take when you feel like this, is to think about why you are feeling this way. How can you take ahold of your nerves and channel it in ways that are going to make you feel confident and reflect your strengths?
The constant deep and quick beats of your heart can feel heavy, but take a moment to think and admire everything surrounding you. Regardless of why you are nervous, think about what makes you happy and feel like yourself. Sometimes it may even take a minute of self-talk and positive affirmation, but this is what can help you ease into a challenge or nerve wracking situation. Find ways that work for you, to be less afraid and allow you to conquer your biggest feats.
We all need different amounts of time to find a calm and open space to find a relaxing piece of mind, and that is completely okay. Our own expectations of how much time we need, is based on how we feel. It is too often, that we compare ourselves to others and we tend to lose our own sense of direction and personal purpose. Whether you feel like this often or very sporadically, give yourself credit for taking the time to find yourself and work towards building a stronger part of yourself. Find people who will lift you up and encourage you, in times where you may not feel ready or comfortable. Stay connected and take a deep breath.
